Insemination terms
General provisions of the EU insemination station Sosath
(D-KBP-036-EWG), updated in January 2025
All breeders who make use of our services accept the following conditions as well as the covering and insemination conditions of the respective associations.
In the case of mares that remained at stud in 2025 (not in foal/resorbed), the stud fee paid in 2025 will be fully credited in the case of immediate payment (or in the case of stud fee splitting, the pregnancy fee) will be fully credited in 2026, provided that a veterinary certificate is available by 01.11.2025.
General information
The breeding season begins on 19.02.2025 and ends on 15.08.2025.
Ordering
Please place your semen order by e-mail, telephone or via our semen order form by 10.00 am.
The following information must be included in the initial semen order:
- Desired stallion
- First and last name and full address of the mare owner
- Breeding association to which the insemination is to be reported
- Exact shipping address
- Details of the mare (name, life number, pedigree)
- Name and address of the inseminating veterinarian
Repeat orders are possible under mare and breeder names.
The breeding certificates must be submitted to the stallion owner (not the vet) at the beginning of the breeding season.
Semen shipping costs shall be borne by the breeder and will be invoiced separately.
Within Germany, semen can be shipped overnight on any day except from Sunday to Monday. Prices can be obtained from the station.
Overnight shipping abroad is possible from Monday to Thursday (in exceptional cases also until Friday). Day shipping via Hippo-Express (BeNeLux countries) is possible every day, but must be registered by 7:15 a.m. at the latest. For shipments abroad or for stallions stationed abroad, there are additional costs for the TRACES certificate. For each semen shipment, the semen utilization certificate must be completed and returned immediately (also possible by e-mail).
The mare owner undertakes to return the last semen utilization certificate before September 15th.
Farm insemination is possible. Coverings are only carried out after a follicle check. Ultrasound, pregnancy examinations and follicle checks are charged separately by the vet. The health service is carried out by the station veterinarian Dr. Lagershausen. Swab samples from mares in heat (except broodmares) are required.
Boxes and good pastures are available for the accommodation of the mares. The daily rate for mares (also with foals) is € 15.00. Stabling is at the risk of the mare owner.
If a stallion is not available at short notice during the breeding season for special reasons (competition, illness, etc.), TG semen can be used if possible or another stallion from the station can be used by arrangement.
There is no entitlement to a refund of the stud fee.
A covering certificate will be issued at the end of the season, which will only be forwarded to the breeder and the responsible association once the stud fee has been paid in full. If we do not have any data (life numbers, association etc.) by 30.09., no stud certificate can be issued.
Stud fee
Currently valid stud fees are published on our homepage.
Stud fee splitting is offered for all stallions. Before the first insemination, an insemination fee of €300 is due for all stallions (except Donkey Boy at €810 and ponies at €200). This fee cannot be offset or discounted. The so-called “pregnancy fee” is due on the 45th day of pregnancy. In the event of non-pregnancy, the breeder must provide the stallion station with proof from the vet without being asked to do so, otherwise the mare is deemed to be in foal. The amount depends on the respective stallion and can be viewed on the website. If no certificate of non-pregnancy is submitted independently, we will assume that the mare is in foal and charge the pregnancy fee. Cancellation at a later date in the event of non-pregnancy is not possible. If the mare reabsorbs, the pregnancy fee will be credited for this mare in the following year if a certificate of non-pregnancy is available.
If the entire stud fee (sum of insemination fee and pregnancy fee) is paid immediately, a €100 discount is granted. If the mare is not in foal at the end of the season and we have received a certificate of non-pregnancy by 01.11., the stud fee paid will be credited for this mare in the following year. If the breeder does not submit a certificate of non-pregnancy without being asked, it is assumed that the mare is pregnant and no credit will be issued!
A mare change is only possible in exceptional situations, please call us in this regard.
All published insemination fees, pregnancy fees and stud fees are net prices. Discounts can be granted for multiple mares, please ask us.
If you have any questions, please contact the station by telephone.
Embryo transfer
Please note that we must be notified of any planned embryo transfer. The stud fee must be paid for each embryo flushed. We will of course grant a discount for several successful flushes. We also require the data of the recipient mares (life number, owner).
Frozen semen
Frozen semen is charged per mare and includes up to a maximum of three insemination doses. After that, a new stud fee is due, without crediting or entitlement to a credit due to non-pregnancy. One insemination dose is supplied per mare. Before the TG semen is dispatched, a user agreement for the TG semen must be sent back to us by e-mail, otherwise it cannot be dispatched.
The TG semen remains the property of Hengsthaltung Sosath. If the semen is not used, it must be returned. The semen may not be passed on to third parties or used on mares not intended for this purpose.
The delivered containers, which are the property of Deckstation Sosath, must be returned to the station within four calendar days. Otherwise, a fee of €25.00 per day will be charged from the fifth calendar day.
If the container is not returned or is lost, it will be charged in full.
If the breeder's own containers are used, the Sosath station accepts no liability.
The proof of use enclosed with the delivery, completed and signed by the vet/insemination attendant, as well as the empty straws, must be returned to us immediately after insemination.
Young stallion test
Due to the change in the performance test regulations, we would like to point out that our young stallions are covered at the breeder's risk before the performance test has been completed.Of course, the stallion station makes every effort to ensure that the stallions have the appropriate performance certificates, but cannot guarantee them.
Contracts concerning the ordering of semen are subject to German law.
The exclusive place of jurisdiction is Oldenburg, Germany.
A viewing of the stallions is possible by appointment by telephone.
