Team gold and individual bronze medalists at the 2025 European Championships
Description
Ermitage Kalone has undoubtedly established himself as THE headline act in the show jumping scene.
This outstanding athlete and crowd favourite won the gold medal at the Belgian Championships in 2023 under the saddle of Gilles Thomas and placed round after round in international show jumping competitions at top level. In 2024, he competed at the Olympic Games in Paris and qualified for the final with a clear round.
After numerous placings in Grand Prix competitions such as in Vejer de la Frontera (1.50m, 6th place), Moerzeke (1.55m, 2nd place) and Maastricht (1.55m, 6th place), he recently jumped a double clear round in Mechelen to finish 5th in the World Cup Grand Prix over 1.55m.
His greatest successes to date are the team gold medal and individual bronze medal at the 2025 European Championships in A Coruña, where he impressed with five perfect clear rounds.
Gerd Sosath describes Ermitage Kalone accurately: "Ermitage Kalone continuously shows perfect rounds and makes every measurement look effortless and easy - it's just a pleasure to watch."
Origin
His sire Catoki started his youngster career with Gerd Sosath. He won the Grand Prix of Rastede with him and became regional champion. Catoki was later successful at the highest level under Phillip Weishaupt and Emil Hallundback. Many of his offspring are successful in the world's most difficult courses and championships, for example Catch me if you can (Laura Klaphake and Anna Kellnerova) and Contanga 3 with Alberto Zorzi.
Ermitage's dam is the Kannan daughter Belleaventure Kalone, who was injured as a young horse and was only used for breeding. Ermitage is her first product. His granddam Blague du Maury jumped at 1.35 m level herself. She is, for example, the dam of Vertige Kalone (Berlin), who jumps 1.45m, and also of Prestige Kalone (Potter du Manaou), who jumps 1.60m under Phillippe Rozier. Jasione aa, his 3rd dam, is also the dam of the stallion Quercus du Maury and granddam of the well-known Anglo-arabian stallion Fusain du Defey. This Anglo line is a very well-known and sought-after line for its sport horses as well as the licensed stallions that have already come from it.
